Board Data and Collaborative Opportunities with Academic Medicine, Specialty Societies, Federal Agencies, and Other Stakeholders

Description: Several boards, including the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), have prioritized partnering with external stakeholders around physician data collection, analysis, and use. These partnerships may be with academic medical centers, specialty societies, federal agencies, and others. They can focus on a variety of topics, such as 1) A better understanding of the current and future workforce, 2) Quality improvement initiatives, 3) Quality measurement (quality care, well-being), and 4) Disease surveillance. These partnerships, in turn, may offer opportunities to amplify the dissemination of data, inform federal and specialty society agendas, build trust across organizations, inform data quality for these registries and research activities around quality measures, and improve life-long learning and practice improvement.

In this instructional educational session, speakers from the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Board of Family Medicine, and Stanford University will share examples of how they have partnered with different organizations, for what purposes, and lessons learned. Speakers will also discuss potential challenges of partnerships, ranging from logistical challenges (resources, data sharing agreements, analytic approaches, and data/domain expertise) to the alignment of the philosophies and priorities of partnering organizations while achieving the ABMS macroscale ends of improving clinical practice and building trust. Perspectives from audience members will be actively sought to encourage dialogue and cross-board learning.
