Description: Over the past several years, there have been increased efforts across the country toward physician unionization. This has impacted both residents and fellows-in-training, as well as physicians later in their careers who are practicing independently.
These changes in the physician workforce have implications regarding the perception of current physicians around organized medicine and organizational leadership/hierarchies. In this session, we will explore the following themes: (1) What is the current status of unionization in 2024? (2) How did we get here? (3) What are some of the consequences of increasing physician unionization on the approach to certification? (4) What can leaders and certifying organizations do to address the current workforce climate?
This session will be interactive with an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas and best practices regarding unionization in their respective fields. Participants will leave the session with a list of references for future reading, and the opportunity to connect with a group of attendees on an ongoing basis after the conference concludes.
